Review of LEPIN 16009 Pirates of the Grammarye Queen Anne's Revenge

As with good things, one thing follows another so here you are with a double dose. I have been wanting to do a ship kit for a long while and I finally decided on this one. It comes from a popular pirate movie which I am sure you will have no trouble identifying. As with my other kits, I got this from the guys at Brixit. You can also find them on Carousell. 

The box is quite big but it seems to be a little flimsier than usual or maybe someone did try to "pirate" it. See, what I did there? hehe. Anyway, moving on since no one appreciates my sense of humour.

The first thing you notice after starting the build is this..the gaps between the parts are just horrendous. LEPIN usually has been very good with that but this kit, seems to just have just ugly gaps between parts. Nothing you can see from an arms length away but they do stand out when you are fixing the kit. Especially in the hull pieces.

Once you get over the horror of the gaps, the rest is pretty good. The clutch is very strong. and everything seems to be pretty secure.

The kit stands freely because of the flat base so it is easy to work on and display.

The detailing on the cabin is very good..let me repeat that again, it is very good. The little bits and pieces come together nicely, though the halloween-ish skull heads seem a little over the top to me.

Very good construction and no real issues with the kit.

The sails are a nice touch of cloth but they do not really billow like those on the box art but its feels better than having a plastic for a sail.

Yeah the sails are pretty limp without any wind in them. The kit comes with a humongous 9 mini figs. The detailing on them is pretty decent and most of them come with two faces so you can switch back n forth if you want.

I would definitely recommend the set because it is a nice change from the usual cars and bikes. The finished kit is pretty tall so take note while displaying. Other than that, happy sailing in calm waters.

Review of LEPIN 05048 Star Plan Tie Striker

Hey everyone, after a long hiatus away from bricking, I am back again with an over due post. Presenting the LEPIN 05048 Star Plan Tie Striker, which was featured in a popular movie. As with my other kits, I got this from the guys at Brixit. You can also find them on Carousell. 

The box is of an average size, not very big but definitely on the slimmer side. Comes with the usual box art, nothing too exciting to shout about. The parts inside are in numbered packets BUT the manual does not mention which part comes from which numbered packet so you still have to scan through each packet to find the right part...which kinda defeats the purpose of numbering packets. Maybe I am missing something on how to find the right parts...If so, please drop me a comment about it.

The construction as expected from LEPIN is very good, the clutch is great. The colours are a little iffy when compared to the manual because black parts are shown as really dark grey in the manual so you have to actually remind yourself about the colour difference.

The striker body is pretty compact with not much detailing. However its very secure and no loose parts popping off.

The real stand out feature were its wings. Really big and though they look flimsy, the finished product is pretty secure and should easy stand up some playtime.

The wings snapped on and looking pretty good. It also takes up quite a bit of space because of its wings so keep that in mind.

A closer look at the striker body with the detailing on it. Nothing too exciting but keeping in mind the price tag, pretty respectable.

The set comes with 4 mini figures. Pretty basic stuff. But face it, you did not buy the kit for its mini figs right?

One last view of the striker before it flies off into the galaxy. Was a quick fun build definitely and sci-fi fans will love to have this in their collection.

Review of LEPIN 05006 Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle

So here we are again with another kit from the popular series.

A decent size box comes with nice box art and a total of 6 minfigures. Yep, thats right.

Presenting the mini figures. To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the minfigs. There are no "funny" expressions or missing eyebrows etc. All in all, looks to be good quality.

Start off with the basic frame

The construction is decent with no issues except that I had a missing piece so I waiting for it to arrive before I build this again.  I later realised that the "missing part" was actually a misplaced part but the realization was too late for me since the new part had already arrived.

The construction is very good. The clutch is very strong so no loose pieces hanging off.

Some points to highlight about the kit.

1. The shuttle does not have a stand built in so it sits on the folded bottom extension of the wings
2. There doesn't seem to be any place for the minifigs to be seated inside the cockpit of the shuttle
3. The green plastic bolts of laser can be shot out of the shuttle with a simple press in a slot on the wings. Just be careful that its not pointed at any delicate body parts before firing. So not really ideal around young kids or "young at heart" adults.
